360 115 withdrawn following collision at Elstow 19 06 26
During the evening peak on Friday June 19th 2026 a collision occured at Elstow, just south of Bedford  on the Up Fast Line

Train  1B67 formed of class 810 (015)  five car , the 15:50 Nottingham to London St Pancras  booked to run non stop from the last station call at Kettering. On the day running around 20 minutes late this service was due to pass  Bedford South Junction  at 16:52  actual 17:09 line speed 125 mph

Train  1H46 formed of Class 360 (115) the 16:40 Corby to London St Pancras booked to call at Bedford so routed as booked off the Up Fast Line at Bedford North Junction into platform one at Bedford (17:10) prior to rejoining the Up Fast Line at Bedford South Junction as booked at  17:12.
This station call is planned as the up fast line does not have a platform at Bedford Station .

After the late running 1B67  had passed over Bedford South Junction and cleared the overlap of WH154  the signaller would be able to  manually set the route for 1H46 to rejoin the up fast line allowing  signal  WH356 to display a single yellow aspect and 'number 4' Junction indicator.

Whilst this route was being set ( the signal interlocking allowed it as the Track Circuit  block section was clear upto and including the 190 metre overlap of up fast Automatic  signal   WH154   train 1B67 came to a stand on the approach to signal WH152  and was
Protected  in  rear by the signalling system , Automatic signal WH 154, a gantry mounted signal equipped with Automatic Warning System (AWS)  on approach but not fitted with  Train Protection & Warning System ( TPWS)  as not required.

The train in rear 1H46 after receiving a single yellow and junction indicator at WH356 crossed over Bedford South junction ( 50 mph pointwork) onto the up fast line (100 mph for EMU type stock but recently relaxed to 110 ) but with  1B67 unexpectadly at a stand ahead, 1H46 approached   the first signal 1H46  would be required to obey  on up fast line   WH154 -  which was protecting the rear of  stationary 1B67 .
